Fiji Airways Fijian 7s halfback and co-captain Seremaia Tuwai has reiterated the need to iron out mistakes ahead of the third leg of the HSBC Sevens Series.

With the Hong Kong and Singapore 7s moved to October due to the deadly Coronavirus, Tuwai believes the team can use the extra rest to better prepare for the next leg in Los Angeles and Vancouver.

“Pressure is always there and it will never go away,” Tuwai said.

“The only thing that you learn from there is teamwork.

“It teaches us to come back home forget the win and the disappointments go back to Uprising Beach Resort ground and work on we need to improve on.

“We have more time now to prepare ourselves so come the Los Angeles and Vancouver 7s we will try and improve the mistakes and minimise it.

“I believe that is good for us so we get extra rest but we still need that game time but right now it’s in the hands of the coaching staff because they have set up plans for us to counter those two tournaments cancellation.”

Tuwai is confident and believes that with the current crop of players, Fiji will be able to retain the 7s rugby gold medal during the Olympic Games in Japan in July.

“Yes, I have faith in these boys and I would for them because they are teammates, my brothers where ever we go we are one so i would die for my brothers,” he said.

“For us it’s always about the team and their individual efforts that make the team perform at world stages and winning tournaments. If I’m not in the team they still perform better.

“It’s all about bringing the team together where we gel as a unit before we get inside the pitch and play as a team.”

The 2019 HSBC 7s Player of the year Tuwai won the Fiji TattsLotto Sportsman of the Year Award during the Fiji Sports Award last Saturday.

He attributed the win to his family and friends.

“This is special to me because it’s here at home in Fiji and I’m really honoured to win this award,” Tuwai said.

“I would like to thank God and the opportunity he has given me to display my talent to the world, my parents for their support during my rugby carrier and my wife and kids.

“To all the rugby clubs that I have played through the years Marist rugby club, New Town, Naitasiri, Daveta rugby, PWD Bure this are the clubs that nurture me to where I am today.”

“I want to thank Mr Ben Ryan for selecting me and identifying my talent, to the coach Gareth Baber and his coaching staff and the FRU for still believing in me.”
