Bus Company Calls On Schools And Education Ministry To Address students’ Behaviour

A Suva-based bus company has called on schools and the Ministry of Education to take students to task, especially those who endanger their lives while riding in buses.

Students of a secondary school in Suva were pictured yesterday hanging out of the buses.

The students were going to their inter-house at the ANZ Stadium in Laucala Bay.

Raiwaqa Buses Limited director Ashok Kumar said drivers cannot control the students.

He said the students do not listen to the drivers and the situation was getting worse.

“People don’t realise that students are hard to control. The students today (yesterday) boarded the bus from Nabua,” he said.

“They don’t listen to the driver and end up behaving in a manner which is dangerous and affects the safety of others. And many school children during sporting events do this. They act even worse if they do win.

“I hope the Ministry of Education can shed some light on this matter and teach these children how to behave in buses.”

Mr Kumar also highlighted that students were also responsible for damaging and vandalising buses.

The students were half hanging out of the windows and swinging flags.

The Land Transport Authority said such behaviours must stop and urged schools to address the issue.
