Construction works at the new Sigatoka Methodist College site in Kulukulu, Sigatoka, have been put on hold.

This is after the Ministry of Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations issued two notices to the contractor, Basic Industries Limited, yesterday.

This was in regards to an accident where an iron-rod slab is alleged to have crushed a 42-year-old employee during working hours.

The incident happened on February 10.

Minister for Employment, Productivity, Industrial Relations, Youth and Sports Parveen Bala said: “The ministry has served the company two notices today (yesterday), one is the Prohibition Notice to stop work and Requisition Notice for additional information.”

Mr Bala said his ministry was aware of the incident and a thorough investigation was underway.

Works at the construction site were in progress yesterday.

Staff said all employees were directed to strictly follow Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) procedures.

Meanwhile, family members are keeping their hopes alive and praying for the recovery of the 42-year-old Nasama Village man admitted at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital in Suva.
