The 2019 Vodafone Women’s Inter District Championship pools were drawn yesterday at Fiji Sports Council corporate box in Suva.

Defending champions, Labasa were drawn in Group B alongside Tailevu/Naitasiri, Navua and Ba.

Group B holds host and runner-ups from last year, Nadroga with Rewa, Suva and Nadi.

The 2019 Vodafone Women’s IDC will be held at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka from February 29 to March 1.

Fiji Football Association chief executive officer, Mohammed Yusuf said the Association was keen on ensuring they created competition both for men and women at all levels.

“Fiji is currently ranked 65th in the world this is attributed to our continuous drive to ensure our girls play competitive football in all age group level,” Yusuf said.

“In terms of local competition, Fiji FA is doing more for the women’s competition than the boys and has a lot of natural talent and they can be future leaders if we look after them well, through their welfare and education.”

Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee chief executive officer Lorraine Mar is encouraging all women to take part.

“It is about getting women to get that step up and be better,” Mar said.

“That is how you get the recognition, not because you are a woman, because you are a good football player.

“It is all about the holistic aspect of being a player, it is about education, and how you enhance your skills as a football player.”

Vodafone Fiji Limited manager marketing/ communication Saleshni Chand said they were proud to be associated with Fiji FA and to help in promoting women football in Fiji.
