Finally Goundar Shipping Company Limited will have five Filipino engineers on its pay roll.

GSCL managing director George Goundar yesterday confirmed that the five expatriates’ arrival saying that his company could soon be accommodating franchise runs in the maritime zone.

“Their arrival warrants that five of my vessels would be up and running again,” Mr Goundar said.

“They are all engineers and this is good for our customers as we would be soon again providing reliable and safe services,” he said.

“We hope to resume our services by the end of this month.”

GSCL had grounded five of its nine vessels mid last month because there were no qualified staff to man the vessels.

Lomaiviti Princess 2, 3, 4, 7 and 9 facilitate franchise runs for Yasayasa Moala, Lomaiviti and Rotuma.

Mr Goundar confirmed that their runs would be normalised by the end of this month.

Meanwhile GSCL has recruited 20 unskilled wokers in the hope of giving them on the job training on their vessels.

“I have recruited 20 local seafarers. They don’t have licence but we are hoping to train them onboard and then they can get back to school to get their licence.”
