Boxer Sebastian Singh, facing an assault charge, has pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Singh appeared before Magistrate Liyanage Wickramasekara at the Magistrates Court in Suva.

Singh is charged with one count of assault causing actual bodily harm.

It is alleged that Singh assaulted his 22-year-old pregnant wife on December 22 last year in Suva, causing her bodily harm.

The accused was represented by lawyer Siddarth Nandan, while Police Prosecutor Corporal Luke Qerewaqa appeared for the Prosecution.

Singh’s lawyer, Mr Nandan, also told the court that the defence had filed a notice of motion seeking bail variation.

Mr Nandan told the court that Singh wished to travel overseas to take part in a boxing programme, which is sanctioned by the World Boxing Council and would take place on March 27.

He told the court that Singh would be travelling on March 14 and sought if the Prosecution could file their response within seven days for bail variation.

The matter has been adjourned for mention on March 2.

Bail for Singh has been further extended.
