Kabara District Requests Transmission Tower

The people of Naikeleyaga Village in Kabara, Lau, want a transmission tower to better telecommunication services on the island.
This was the highlight of a meeting of a Kabara district meeting at Naikeleyaga Village last week.
District representative, Josua Matavura, said this was an ongoing problem given the maritime islanders’ need to stay in touch with their families and friends on the mainlands and overseas.
He said he had raised the matter at the Lau Provincial Council meetings.
“We’re going to raise it again at the October or November meeting in Suva,” he said.
A landowning unit he said had given a piece of land for the tower.
Also at the meeting, the representative from Naikeleyaga Village told the participants that they needed solar electricity.
He said a Telecom Fiji Limited worker was at the village to work on their communication disk.
“It’s now working but we need a bigger one to serve the whole of the Kabara district,” he said.
The representative said their generator had arrived from Suva after the repair by the Energy Fiji Limited (EFL).
However, it was not working and they had decided to use solar power to generate their electricity.
When asked about the Lau Provincial Council cleanest village competition he said Naikeleyaga Village would be part of it.
