Papua New Guinea light heavyweight boxer John Korake arrived at Nadi International Airport last night confident of beating Savenaca Naliva in their title fight in Ba on Saturday.

Korake said he is adamant of winning the World Boxing Foundation Asia Pacific and the Pro Box Pacific light heavyweight titles that will be on stake at the A.D Patel College ground.

“This is my first time in Fiji and despite the short notice I’m here to win,” Korake told SUNsports.

“Again I’m here to win. I know my opponent has been training well and confident too and that’s the good thing about the sport.

“I’m thankful to the promoter for giving me this fight.”

Korake stepped in to fight Naliva after Bordin Peepueh of Thailand withdrew due to a virus infection.

South Pacific Boxing Promotions director Mohammed Shameem said: “This is going to be a big fight and from here we will give him (Naliva) more fights for the future.

“We urge the fans to come out in numbers.”

WEIGH-IN

Promoter Freddy Chand has indicated that the official weigh-in will be held at 12 midday tomorrow, beside the town’s Ba Police Post.

The fight tickets are $30 ring side, $20 centre stadium, $15 pavillion and $10 (1year-13 with ID).

The programme starts at 2.30pm
