A 21-year-old farmer facing a murder charge has entered a not guilty plea at the High Court in Suva yesterday.

Fabiano Dakai appeared before Judge Justice Rangajeeva Wimalasena yesterday.

Dakai is charged with one count of murder.

He is alleged to have murdered a 34-year-old security guard, Timoci Dogai, of Waidradra on February 4, 2019.

Prosecution was represented by Kimberly Semisi from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions and Namrata Mishra from the Legal Aid Commission represented the accused.

Ms Mishra told the court that there were admissions in the accused’s caution interview statement on the act, however, an explanation was given on why he did the act.

She also requested for time to sort out the pre-trial conference matters.

The case has been adjourned to March 11 for mention.

Dakai has been further remanded in custody.
