Namosi crowned girl’s Suva Zone 1 champs while Ratu Sukuna claim the boy’s title.

Vereniki Koroi of Ratu Sukuna Memorial School clocked 10.69seconds in the 100m senior boys final to win the blue ribbon event during the Suva Zone One competition yesterday.

“This is my last in year in school and I want to make a mark at the Coke Games,” he said.

“I believe I will win the race because I’ve been preparing well during the off-season.”

The 19-year-old Navai, Vanua Levu native has set his sights on the Coke Games in April.

“I will train harder for the Coke Games because I know it’s going to be tough.

“My parents are in Vanua Levu and I’m staying with my aunty in Suva. But I know they’ll be supporting me back in the village.

“I know they will be happy for me so I dedicate this win to everyone back at home.”

He later took out the 200m senior boy’s final.

RESULTS

Meanwhile, Namosi Secondary School won the girls’ category amassing 11 gold, 9 silvers and 2 bronze medals, followed by Ballantine Memorial School with 9 gold, 15 silvers, 19 bronze and Ratu Sukuna Memorial third with 7 gold medals, 4 silvers, 5 bronze.

In the boy’s division, Ratu Sukuna Memorial top with 16 gold medals, 8 silvers, 14 bronze followed by Dudley High with 10 gold, 4 silvers, 5 silvers and Nasinu Secondary third with 7 gold medals, 8 silvers and 1 bronze.

The Suva Zone 2 competition gets underway next Wednesday at the ANZ Stadium.

An intense competition is expected between Marist Brothers High School, Suva Grammar School, Gsopel High School and St Joseph’s Secondary School, Yat Sen Secondary School and International School, Nabua Secondary School and Sacred Heart College.
