The $45 million Fiji Airways Aviation Academy is expected to be officially opened within the coming weeks.

Shane Hussein, Fiji Airways general manager corporate communications, said work on the building at Namaka in Nadi is near completion.

“We will officially open the facility in a few weeks and our team is extremely excited by all the opportunities and the convenience the Academy presents for our pilots – both current and future.

“As highlighted previously, the Academy will also have pilots from around the world paying to use our Full Flight Simulators.

“This will be an added boost for the local economy” Mr Hussein said.

Opening

“Opening should be sometimes towards the end of March or April,” Mr Hussein said.

The two new simulators at the academy would provide training for pilots, engineers, flight attendants and airline workers from Fiji, the region and around the world.

The academy was expected to save Fiji Airways from between $6million to $10 million annually by not sending pilots overseas for training.

The academy would be opened to the public especially school tours.
