The eight Fijians in Wuhan, China, are safe and healthy, the Fijian Embassy in Beijing has confirmed.

Wuhan City is the epicentre of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

A situation report by the Fijian Embassy in China on Tuesday said all Fijian student representatives in different provinces had reported that there were no cases of COVID-19 among the Fijians.

The statement said the Fijian Embassy would continue to remain in close and regular contact with all Fijian nationals in Wuhan to ensure their health and safety.

“It is important that everyone analyse the situation based on factual and correct information and not to be carried away with fabricated, fake and misinformation on social media and to remain confident and assured of China’s capabilities as it battles on to win over this outbreak,” the statement said.

Meanwhile, a health expert in Shanghai, Zhang Wenhong predicts that the global spread of COVID-19 will come under control within six months as most infection cases in foreign countries are imported, and China has gained experience in coping with the outbreak.

In the Embassy’s report, Mr Wenhong said it was important that foreign countries adopted prevention measures and scale back or cancel public gathering in major cities.
