Lateef In Court For 7th Time On Drug Charge

Former Suva lawyer Shazran Abdul Lateef was arrested again on Tuesday night following another drug raid at his house in Suva. He has been remanded in custody.

Lateef, 69, appeared before Magistrate Waleen George at the Magistrates Court in Sigatoka yesterday.

This is the seventh drug related matter Lateef is currently facing.

The matter was called at Sigatoka because there were no court sittings in the Magistrates Court in Suva and Nausori as the Magistrates were engaged in a workshop in Sigatoka. Lateef is charged with one count of found in possession of illicit drugs.

It is alleged that Lateef on March 3, 2020, at Raiwai, was found in possession of 0.431 grams of white substances known as methamphetamine.

The drug raid had resulted in the seizure of clear zip lock plastics containing white crystal substances, believed to be methamphetamine and later tested positive.

Police Prosecutor Woman Police Constable, Kula Nainoca served the accused with full phase of disclosures.

Magistrate George has remanded Lateef in custody and adjourned the matter to be called for mention on March 9.
