‘Mum, You Can Do It’ Call Motivates Solo Mother

Mum, you can do it; are the words of Philip Tawela Ralifo to motivate and inspire his mother, Paulini Tawela.
Mrs Tawela raised her son alone and endured the challenges of being a single parent.
Her struggles paid off after being separated from her husband.
Yesterday she graduated with 43 other women from the Makoi Women’s Vocational Training Centre.
The 34-year-old, from Nadroga, lost hope trying to earn a sustainable source of income since the beginning of this year.
“Being a single mother is not easy for me and I almost gave up on my dream of opening my own cooking and pastry business,” Ms Tawela said.
The opportunity to join the training centre was a blessing, she said, because she learned a new skill after completing her eight weeks course.
“It was really unacceptable with what I went through in life, but I had to overcome this for my son and my happiness.”
Ms Tawela looks to find employment and continue her studies.
She stays in Makoi at her uncle’s house and is supported by him every month.
“Women have a strong influence. We are strong and can overcome anything,” Ms Tawela said.
Her advice: “Always accept what you go through in life as it will open doors to greater opportunities.”
