Businessman and former National Federation Party provisional candidate in the 2018 General Elections, Feroz Gulam Mohammed, was taken in yesterday for questioning by Police.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said he was questioned by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) in relation to a number of alleged seditious comments he made on Facebook.

He was assisted by the Legal Aid Commission under the first hour procedure.

Commission director Shahin Ali said Mr Mohammed wasn’t represented by the commission.

“Mr Mohammed has opted to get Legal Aid to give him legal advice as opposed to hiring a private lawyer,” Mr Ali said.

This is despite Mr Mohammed making unfounded allegations of the commission and its director on social media.

“It is unfortunate that Mr Mohammed has written things about me and the Legal Aid Commission, which are factually incorrect, misleading and ill-conceived,” MrAli said.

“This isn’t the first time that he has done this. But nonetheless, my work and profession mandates that professionalism be maintained at all times and I have done so in this case.”
