Canada Sevens: Time To Team Up With Fijians: Sahid Family

The Sahib family have made Canada Sevens in Vancouver their yearly pilgrimage.
The Delta, BC, family haven’t missed a tournament since 2016, the inaugural year of the Canada Sevens.
Shafeel Sahib, wife, Betty Sahib, sons’ Issiah and Isa Sahib and daughter Ayela Sahib’s love for Fiji have them make the audience in the four-year running of the event.
“Vancouver Sevens is a must do,” said Shafeel.
“This year will be our 5th tournament.
“It’s our Fiji 7s rugby time with the family, a time to enjoy the games, mingle with the rest of Fijians and just soak in the atmosphere.”
Sahib said he has been following sevens rugby from early 80s, added he wouldn’t waver nothing over his love for the sport.
He said his wife and the kids needed a bit coaxing to follow the sport in the beginning but have now become huge fans.
“Wife and kids are all Canadian born and what is rugby to Fijians, hockey is to Canadians,” he said.
“But after the inaugural Vancouver Sevens in 2016, there was aroused interest and since they love the sport.”
Betty said she loves the game.
“It’s fun to watch,” she said.
“My husband walks me through the games if I don’t understand.”
The Sahib’s will leave home as early as 4am to join the queue of getting the field side seats.
“We came early to beat the stampede and get the best seat”, said son, Issia.
