Defending Women’s IDC Champs On Track

Defending Vodafone Women’s Interdistrict Champions Labasa beat Rewa 3-2 on penalty kicks in the first semifinal at the Fiji FA Academy ground, Ba yesterday.
They are now going to face arch rivals Ba who thrashed Nadroga 3-0 in the second semi-final.
For Labasa they are confident of taking their revenge after going down to Ba 2-1 during pool play.
Against Rewa it was an exciting encounter as both teams were evenly matched.
Rewa had their chances to score but poor finishing let them.
Labasa’s Jotivini Tabua had the best chance in the second spell of extra time when they got a penalty but her attempt was bravely saved by Rewa goalkeeper Merevesi Fuga.
Both teams were locked 0-0 at the end of the extra spells and the winner was to be decided on a penalty shootout.
Fuga took the first kick and was saved by Labasa goalkeeper Sulia Qalolo before Sofi Diyalowai made no mistake with her spot kick as they led 1-0.
Rewa’s Timaima Vuniyayawa kick sailed over the cross bar while Labasa’s Shayal Sindhika’s attempt was saved by Fuga.
Rewa coach/player Waqanidrola leveled the scores at 1-1 before Fuga once again denied Labasa’s Unaisi Tuberi attempt.
Rewa took a 2-1 lead before Stella Naivalulevu made it 2-2 for Labasa.
It was down to the last kickers as Rewa’s Joyce Naceva kick was stopped by Qalolo before Tabua nailed Labasa’s winning goal.
