Vancouver 7s: The Bolaca Show

Nippy Bolaca scored three tries on the first day and the one that mattered the most was against France in their final pool game. Trailing 7-0, Bolaca bursts through a gap, fended off two tacklers to score underneath the post and this sparked the Fijians to run away with a 26-17 win.

Fiji Airways Fijian 7s playmaker Napolioni Bolaca is our go-to man in today’s crucial Canada Sevens playoffs at the BC Place Stadium in Vancouver.

Nippy Bolaca scored three tries on the first day and the one that mattered the most was against France in their final pool game. Trailing 7-0, Bolaca bursts through a gap, fended off two tacklers to score underneath the post and this sparked the Fijians to run away with a 26-17 win.

The win has seen them book a spot in today’s Cup quarterfinal against New Zealand and barring any upset a possible showdown against South Africa in the Cup semifinal.

Bolaca is currently the 2019/20 World Sevens Series top points scorer with 157, followed by Ireland’s Jordan Conroy with 130 and Nathan Hirayama of Canada at 120.

Fijian 7s head coach Gareth Baber said they need to be control of the game.

“We’ll work on our re-starts as we expect a very physical encounter against New Zealand,” he said.

Earlier in the day during pool play, Fiji beat Wales 26-19, but lost to hosts Canada 21-26
