Technical Glitch Causes Delay Of Flights

A technical issue regarding flight system yesterday caused a delay of two regional and three international flights out of Nadi International Airport.
As a result, a large number of outgoing visitors were held up at the airport as efforts were made to restore the system.
The glitch caused the delayed departure of regional flights to Port Moresby and Kiribati, international flights to Sydney, Brisbane, and Auckland.
Fiji Airports
In a statement, Fiji Airports Limited said the matter was later fixed.
“There was a technical issue with our SITA (Société Internationale de Télécommunications Aéronautiques), flight check-in system at Nadi International Airport this morning.”
The SITA check-in system was fully restored by 9am.
Fiji Airports apologises to our passengers for any inconvenience this may have caused,” said Fiji Airports communications and public relations manager Christopher Chand.
Praneel Singh, 46, from Rakiraki who accompanied a 20-member Fijian group was caught up with the delay.
“There was a delay in check-in at 5.30am,” he said.
“We had to catch another flight to another island.”
“It cost us money to arrange these changes.
“Little bit of frustration, but we cannot do much,” he said.
Fiji Airways
Fiji Airways said check-in at Nadi International Airport was affected by a failure of the common user network provided by Fiji Airports Limited, which affected all airlines from Nadi.
Fiji Airways said it immediately actioned its business continuity arrangements using its desks in the domestic terminal to check in international passengers, and its service desk in the international terminal as a bag drop.
The airline said both locations were served directly by Fiji Airways own network and were consequently not affected by the failure of the airport’s infrastructure.
Three Fiji Airways flights were delayed as a result of the infrastructure failure.
