Kadavu Man Sentenced To 7 Years Imprisonment For Possession Of 15 Kilograms Of Marijuana

Inoke Siva of Kadavu has been sentenced to seven years imprisonment for being in possession of 15 kilograms of marijuana.

His sentencing was handed down by Judge Justice Salesi Temo at the High Court in Suva on Monday.

Siva was charged and convicted for one count of possession of illicit drugs.

On July 20, 2018, at Suva, Siva without lawful authority was found in possession of an illicit drug namely cannabis sativa also known as marijuana, weighing 15 kg.

Siva brought to Suva a white and red stripe bag with 15 kg of cannabis sativa plant materials contained therein, to sell in Suva.

This was to supplement his income as a subsistence farmer.

The Police in Suva were forewarned about his activities, and on arrival in Suva, Siva was arrested and the illicit drugs he brought, were discovered.

Justice Temo said made an order that the illicit drugs were to be destroyed by the Chief Registrar’s Office with the assistance of the Police as soon as possible.

Justice Temo also made the order that before the destruction, the drugs were to be photographed and the photos to be part of the record.

Siva was given 30 days to appeal to the Court of Appeal.
