Vijendra Rao received the Technical and Further Education Excellence Award during the Fiji National University (FNU) graduation ceremony at the FMF Gymnasium in Suva yesterday.

The 54-year-old graduated from National Training and Productivity Center’s Department of National Productivity & Industry Innovation and credited his daughter as his inspiration. Mr Rao, who is the supervisor of the mechanical field at the Vatukoula Gold Mines, Tavua, had successfully completed his Advanced Diploma of Leadership and Management.

“My daughter, Divashna Rao, is doing Accounting and Business Management course at the University of the South Pacific, and she motivated me to do this course to achieve leadership roles,” he said.

He said achieving an excellence award would help him at work and teach his workers about leadership and management roles.

“This course was related to my work, so it was easy for me to complete this course,” Mr Rao said.

He said he wanted to become a role model to people he worked with. He aims to achieve a higher position in the future, something he promised his daughter he would do.
