Lawyer Of Drug Accused To File Complaint To Human Rights Commission

The lawyer representing one of two people facing drug-related charges says she will file a complaint to the Human Rights Commission.
Appearing before High Court Judge Justice Chamath Morais, lawyer Adrienne Ali, who is representing Marc Winston Tjin Konnoen, told the court that they would be filing a complaint to the Human Rights Commission this week. This was after an order was issued to check on Konnoen’s medical review, but he did not go. Ms Ali told the court that Konnoen was physically assaulted by the Fiji Corrections Officers.
Meanwhile, lawyer Jasveer Singh, who is representing Shaneil Suresh Autar, requested that his client be taken for medical examination because he was suffering from a sickness. Mr Singh also told the court that prison authorities were informed about his issue a month ago.
Konnoen and Autar are charged with unlawful possession, manufacturing, cultivating and supply of illicit drugs and unlawful importation of illicit drugs.
The State was represented by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions. The matter was called to check on the pre-trial conference (PTC) documents, but the State sought for more time to serve the PTC documents and PTC checklist to the defence. Justice Morais then further remanded Konnoen and Autar, and adjourned to the matter to March 26, 2020.
