Schoolboys Tour NZ

The Fiji Schoolboys Junior Bati (U18) will make a three-match tour hosted by the New Zealand Rugby League next month after they missed out last year.

The Fiji Schoolboys Junior Bati (U18) will make a three-match tour hosted by the New Zealand Rugby League next month after they missed out last year.

The tour which started in 2008 was usually hosted by Australia RL.

Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby League national secretary Taniela Vakamoce said the tour will be great for development.

“They will play three matches which will be a good opportunity for our players to develop their talent,”Vakamoce said.

The Schoolboys will play Auckland U18, Waikoa Bay and Zealand U18 Selection.

Joeli Savou, will be the head coach assisted by Timoci Duve.

Prominent reps who later represented Australia and France in rugby union Marika Koroibete, Sefanaia Naivalu Virimi Vakatawa came through schools rugby pathway.

9s comp for girls

Eight schools will take part in the first ever rugby league tournament for girls in the South Eastern Zone.

Assemblies of God student, Siteri Talei said girls should not fear playing in a male dominated sport.

“To other girls out there, this game is not only for men, it is for women too.”

Lomaivuna High and Naitasiri Secondary schools are bringing two teams each for this 9s competition.

Other schools taking part are Latter-day Saints, Assemblies of God High and St Vincent College.

A team of 15 players will be selected from this competition to meet a team from the Western Zone.

In the boys’ division finals, Queen Victoria School will meet Ratu Kadavulevu School in the Under-15 grade while defending champions Nasinu Secondary faces RKS in the U17 and U19 grades.

3rd Place Playoff: U15: NSS vs LMS; U17: LMS and QVS; U19: MBHS vs QVS.

The games kick off at 9am at the Suva Marcellin Primary School. Fees are $5 for adults and $2 for students in school uniform.
