Up to 20,000 people are expected to converge in Suva this Easter weekend (April 10-13).

Suva City Council special administrator chair Isikeli Tikoduadua said it was a pleasure to be able to host the 93rd Sangam Convention in Suva.

He said the convention was returning to Suva after five years.

“The Sangam Convention draws people from all over the world as they come to participate in religious and sporting events,” he said.

“This is good news for Suva as the influx of people during the holidays mean an opportunity for businesses to make the most of the opportunity.

“This also allows the council a chance to show the world the improvements made in the city.”

The Then India Sanmarga Ikya (TISI) delegation paid a courtesy call to the council chambers.

Mr Tikoduadua said they were grateful that the Sangam body had chosen the capital city to host their annual event.

He said the council would work closely with stakeholders to ensure the convention was a success.
