Drugged, Abducted, Sold For Sex: Nabou Fronts Court, Remanded In Custody

The 19-year-old woman who claimed that she was allegedly drugged, abducted, tortured and sold for sex has been remanded in custody by the Magistrates Court in Nausori.

Mereseini Nabou appeared before Magistrate Lasitha Chaminda yesterday.

Nabou is charged with two counts of giving false information to a public officer.

The accused had alleged that she was drugged and abducted late last month and found herself in a strange home in the Bau, Nausori, where she claimed that other girls were also taken forcefully by the same woman who gave her a beverage to consume in Vatuwaqa.

The police prosecutor told the court that the accused appeared in custody and had been served with full phase of disclosures.

Nabou was charged last Friday and was kept in Police custody until yesterday.

Nabou was given the option for legal representation to which she told the court that she would be engaging a private counsel.

Magistrate Chaminda had remanded the accused in custody and adjourned the matter to be called this morning.

Nabou has been ordered to make a formal bail application.
