The Fiji Airways Flying Fijians are playing the All Blacks XV on October 30 at the BC Place Stadium in Vancouver, Canada.

This was confirmed to SUNsports yesterday by Fiji Rugby Union chief executive officer John O’Connor.

“Yes, the match is going ahead,” O’Connor said.

“But at the moment we’re monitoring the situation with the threat of coronavirus.”

He indicated that hosts Canada take on USA Eagles as the curtain raiser.
DEVELOPMENT

NZR chief rugby officer Nigel Cass said the All Blacks XV, is set to practically function as a second-string or developmental All Blacks side- will provide a new national team aspiration for current professional players.

It’s not a new innovation– the Junior All Blacks, New Zealand A and Emerging Players have all served a similar purpose in the past before being scrapped– but Cass believes it will have benefits for the depth of New Zealand rugby.

The Flying Fijians will be under new head coach Vern Cotter who takes-up his role at Rugby House in June.

It is understood that upcoming players like Teti Tela, Tevita Ikanivere, Jiuta Wainiqolo, Johnny Dyer, and so on could be given the opportunity for exposure.
EUROPE TOUR

O’Connor said they are still waiting for World Rugby to confirm the third team they’ll play during their November tour to Europe.

The Flying Fijians take on Wales in Cardiff on November 7 before they face the French Barbarians on November 14.

He highlighted that the team they’ll play in their third tour game will be from a Tier 2 nation.

Meanwhile, the cancellation of the Global Rapid Rugby series is aimed at the welfare of the players.
