Fiji Airways Fijian 7s rep Josua Vakurunabili yesterday married his village sweetheart Sereima Taiti, at Vatukarasa Village, Nadroga, yesterday.

Guests and relatives from three villages of Conua district and Narewa, Nadi, where Vakurunabili comes from, witnessed the special occasion.

Son of Tui Conua, Ratu Luke Vidovi Vakurunabili, Josua is the second eldest of three siblings.

The newly-weds recently welcomed their three weeks old son who is named after his grandfather, the Tui Conua.

Vakurunabili said he met and fell in love with Sereima in the village.

“She is my village sweetheart. Being brought up together in the village helped us more to know and understand each other well. She is the mother of my child,” he said.

The next step now for Vakurunabili is to focus on the Japan Olympic Games in July.

“My next focus is to making the team to the Olympics. But what is happening now regarding the coronavirus, it is uncertain whether the global showpiece will eventuate. My message to everyone is please stay safe,” said.

Sereima is looking forward to their new journey as a family.

“I’ve made a vow that I will be there for him in good times and bad, sickness and pain and nothing will separate us,” she said.

“I know at times he will be away because of his rugby commitments, but I will always support him.”
