A Good Samaritan came to the rescue of two children who were waiting anxiously at the Nadi International Airport for someone to reunite them with their parents in Australia.

Renee Nanukubalavu, a Kiwi residing in Australia, made this possible.

She offered to assist Amele Ravouvou, 3, and Vatemo Ravouvou, 2, despite being scheduled on a different flight. Ms Nanuku had to reschedule her flight so she could board the same Fiji Airways flight with the children to Sydney yesterday.

The two children flew into the country last Thursday with their grandmother, Asinate Ravouvou, and were expected to return on April 3.

Due to Australia’s entry restrictions, Mrs Ravouvou wasn’t able to accompany her two grandchildren back.

Their mother Erin Ravouvou had requested on social media if anyone was willing to help accompany her two children.

A person responded but was not at the airport.

Ms Nanukubalavu came to their rescue after being approached by her husband, Orisi Nanukubalavu, who is a relative of the children’s father.

“They were stuck here at the airport, and they were scheduled for a different flight. I was told by my husband that they were waiting for someone else to take the children but they haven’t met that person,” Ms Nanukubalavu said.

“I can’t see these two children being stuck here and I am happy to help. I don’t want to leave two children behind.”

Meanwhile, grandmother Asinate Ravouvou shed tears as she waved her grandchildren goodbye.

“I thank God for Mr and Mrs Nanukubalavu. I believe God had provided for this couple to help us take my two grandchildren back to their parents. Before, I was worried for my two grandchildren, but now I am at peace.”

Former Fiji Airways 7s rep Vatemo Ravouvou, is the uncle of the two children.
