Kishi Lata, 60, has been left traumatised after an alleged robbery resulted in the death of her partner at their residence in Cuvu Top, Sigatoka, on Sunday night.

Ms Lata could only describe the incident as a “frightful experience”.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed the incident.

She said the deceased was Lekh Ram Chandra, 78, who sustained serious injuries during the alleged robbery, which led to his death.

Ms Lata said: “It was around 9.30pm. He (Mr Chandra) went outside to the toilet, just like his normal routine. I then heard a kind of sound like someone being cornered.

“Later then I heard his feet tapped the floor a couple of times. That time two people were inside my room. I was threatened.

“One of the men said that he will hurt me with a scissors if I made any sound.

“They did not do anything to me but tied me up in the hand, legs and placed a cloth in my mouth. They asked for money, and searched and made the house upside down, they found some money. It was all dark.

“They also demanded key for the car but they did not find it.”

Ms Lata, who is a tailor, said she moved into the victim’s home about three years ago.

She recalled her last conversation with the victim that night.

“He told me to hit the bed early as I would go to work in the morning. He was such a caring gentleman.”

Ms Naisoro said an investigation into the matter was underway.

“Police are searching for the suspects who had allegedly entered the victim’s home and tied him and his partner and assaulted him,” she said.

“Ms Lata managed to free herself and upon checking, discovered him motionless on his bed but in the next room.

“A post-mortem examination will be conducted to ascertain the cause of death.”
