Vodafone Fijian and ATK football captain Roy Krishna has confirmed that offers from interested clubs has clogged his email.

The 32-year-old striker is now marketable after his one-year contract with ATK is coming to an end.

Krishna who is the lone Fijian professional footballer was a recipient of the Johnny Warren medal at the end of the 2018/19 Australian A- League, when he played for Wellington Phoenix and was the competition’s top goal scorer.

With Kolkata-based ATK, this season, Krishna captained them to win the Indian Super League (ISL).

On February 8, he scored a hat-trick against Odisha FC. He ended the season scoring 15 goals.

“I’ve had offers from clubs inother Asian countries, from the Middle East, USA and Europe,” Krishna said.

“I haven’t finalised my next move but I will be making a decision very soon.”

The Siberia, Labasa native has kept his next move confidential.

“At the moment I’m unsure considering the coronavirus situation.

“If I re-sign with ATK or sign with any other club, I would have to wait for the club to advise me on when to travel to join the club,” he said.

Krishna spoke to SUNsports about his stint in India.

SUN: Describe how was your season with ATK?

ROY: The season was very exciting from the start as we played well and was placed in the top three consistently throughout the season.

When I went for the pre-season, I had enough time to adjust with the team and get to know the culture of the club a little more and explore India a bit as well.

SUN: Best memory so far with the club?

ROY: Every home match was special but the best memory would be when my family travelled from Fiji to cheer for me from the stands and see me score.

It was always my wish to have my family watch a live match overseas in a big stadium and having them there made me feel like it was a dream come true.

SUN: Best memory of playing in the Hero Indian Super League?

ROY: Obviously winning the ISL Cup would be the highlight even though it was behind closed doors.

We were still feeling very hyped from the previous week, where we played in a packed stadium of over 50,000 people and to comeback from a 1-0 deficit and win that semi-final to make it to the finals.

SUN: What were the challenges you faced when you arrived in India. How did you overcome it?

ROY: It was a little challenging adjusting to the weather and not being able to move around freely.

India is very crowded and busy, so it took me a while to get used to the noise and the lack of personal space when out in public.

It’s also the first time I’ve moved far away from the Pacific to work so I was very homesick.

I’m lucky that my wife visits me often and I’ve had my family visit me too and spend time with me.

It was also a bit difficult speaking Hindi or understanding Bengali as I’m more used to Fiji Hindi but my Hindi has improved from practising it with the locals so I’m more able to communicate with everyone who isn’t able to speak English.

SUN: Do you meet fans on a regular basis? What do they tell you?

ROY: We meet fans almost every day, before and after our daily training, at the hotel where we live, before the match and even after our matches and pretty much whenever we are out in public.

They are very passionate about the sport and show a lot of love and appreciation for me.

They tell me that I’m just like them and they are proud of my performance and happy that I chose to come to India.
