Red Cross Fiji has activated its disaster relief packs assistance programme after carrying out assessments to help address health and hygiene issues.

Nadi branch secretary Mere Buadromo, yesterday, handed over hygiene kits and blankets to Lautoka residents who have taken shelter in various places in Nadi.

This newspaper contacted four Fijians who were based at the Nadi Christian Camp since last Friday after the Prime Minister announced Lautoka City as a confined area.

According to a group member, Osea Umuumulovo, they were on their way to their homes in Lautoka after the annual Island Breeze Rugby Plus rugby clinic in Cakaudrove.

He said he was thankful for the assistance.

“We have been here for the past five days, as we cannot pass through the Lautoka confined area,” he said.

“Every citizen has to abide by it. We are thankful to be in contact with our loved ones.

“We sat down for a few days and we figured the enormous task the government is putting in place.

“My advice is to take heed of what the Government is trying to put in place, sit back and relax. It is a God given time where we sit and relax to ponder, and refocus on the future.”
