Elderly citizens are most at-risk from this virus, keeping that in mind, Government has decided to reduce the monthly travel allowance for pensioners from $40 to $20.

Attorney-General and Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum in announcing the COVID-19 stimulus budget said: “the mortality for people over the age of 65 is frighteningly high and these Fijians should stay at home until Fiji is corona-virus free.

“We’ll be reducing the monthly travel allowance for pensioners from $40 to $20, and we encourage younger family members to do their shopping and other errands for your elders. This will be reviewed in three months’ time, as we hope to return to normalcy.”
