Missing your girlfriend and the need to get married are excuses that will not be accepted by the Police from those who breach directives given to protect people from COVID-19. This follows the arrest of two people in separate incidents.

One involving a 23-year-old man, who allegedly escaped Lautoka by foot to see his girlfriend in Vatukacevaceva, Ra. Commissioner of Police Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho confirmed that the man trekked two days from Saru, Lautoka, to reach his girlfriend.

The second incident involved a woman in her 60s, residing in Sukanaivalu Road, Nabua, who in a rush to get married, did not stay self-isolated for 14 days.

Police were notified when the suspect turned up to the Registrar of Marriage Office in Suva on Friday requesting for an urgent procedure of marriage. She had just returned from the United States on March 23 and was supposed to be under self-isolation. Police again reiterate that anyone disobeying the law will face the full brunt of the law.
