Prepare New Budget For Olympics: Mazey

Fiji National Sports Commission executive chairman, Peter Mazey has asked sporting bodies that are sending their teams to the Olympic Games to provide new budgets for their athletes and teams.
This follows after the Tokyo Olympic Games 2020 have been deferred to 2021 by the International Olympic Committee.
Budget
The budget requests by the different sports associations will be part of FNSC submission to government in the new fiscal budget period from August 1, 2020 to July 31, 2021.
“With the Olympics now postponed for a year we have requested Team Fiji, FASANOC and Fiji Rugby Union to provide new preparation budgets for those eligible athletes and teams, especially those like our men’s and women’s sevens who have already qualified.”
However, FNSC has released $1.6 million to Government due to the postponement of all sporting events to aid in the fight against coronavirus pandemic.
“With a number of international sporting events cancelled especially those qualifying rounds for the Olympics as well as the cancelling of events being hosted in Fiji, the Sports Commission was able to release $1.6million in funds which was approved by Government for this fiscal year,” Mazey added.
The Fiji National Sports Commission has been assisting those eligible sports in their preparation for the Olympics in the past four years.
This year it also included funding to enable them to take part in their Olympic sports qualification events.
