With the coronavirus movement restrictions the Fiji Rugby Union has made the wise move to defer the competition to a later date.

Speaking to SUN sports yesterday FRU chief executive officer John O’Connor said plans for the new date are in progress.

“The Skipper Cup competition is still going ahead right now we are still waiting for the government to lift the movement restrictions before we can set a date for the kick off,” he said.

“We are grateful for the decisions made because that is for the safety and welfare of the players.

“The competition was supposed to start this weekend but because of the movement restrictions it has been deferred.

O’Connor added once the restrictions are lifted FRU will set a time- frame that can cater for the teams’ preparation for the competition.

“Once this virus passes and the government lifts the restrictions then we will map out a plan that will help all the teams,” said O’Connor.

“We understand that the restriction has affected most of the teams’ preparation.

“So we will have to give some time for the teams to prepare well for the competition.

“I urge the players to practise good hygiene and to be safe with their families.

“Please be safe and follow the proper procedure as it will help fight the deadly virus.”
