Archery Focuses On Its Development Strategies

World Archery Fiji has plans on developing the sport in the country.

With the cancellation of the Olympic Games and the lockdown of major sporting facilities in the country due to Coronavirus the federation has more time to develop the game by reaching out to schools and communities

President George Fong believes that reaching out to schools once they can; likewise for communities will rope in more interested and aspiring athletes.

“We are focusing on development strategies of the game and ways that we can grow the sport here in Fiji,” Fong said.

“Were targeting youths, women, and persons with disabilities, he said.

“In doing this we might identify potential and talented archers. Who knows they can become world beaters.

“Right now our plan is to have a World Archery Fiji’s elite team participate at the Tokyo Olympics July next year, and in the 2022 Commonwealth Archery Championships.”

The federation is also looking at securing the services of some professional coaches to help in the development process.

“We will be hiring our first Sports Development Officer this year,” he said.

“The development officers will be taking archery to schools and communities around the country.”

“We urge everyone once the virus passes to please come down and give archery a try.”

“Never know that you could be the next best thing in archery.”

Come-N-Try sessions for this month were cancelled due to the Coronavirus.

At the meantime the federation is observing all directives by Government and advice from FASANOC and the Fiji National Sports Commission.
