Tacirua Transport: ‘Government Initiative Not Enough’

Tacirua Transport Company Pte Limited said the fiscal duty on imported fuel imposed by the Government in its COVID-19 Response Budget was a loss to the company.

“Our expenses remain the same, pay is still unchanged, but loading had dropped because of social distancing and non-essential travel.

“Under such circumstances, the Government initiative is not enough,” managing director Ajit Singh said.

He said he was surprised with the 20 cents duty on a litre of fuel given the global price of oil had decreased.

“We thought it would be reflected here.”

The cost of doing business is high, Mr Singh said.

He said the company’s worst fears of shutting down business because of coronavirus may be realised sooner than anticipated unless better incentives are introduced.

Tacirua Transport owns 132 buses, and employs a workforce of 145 people of which 104 are drivers.
