COVID-19: Methodist Church Cancels Palm Sunday

Palm Sunday for members of the Methodist Church in Fiji is cancelled.

The announcement was made by the President of the Methodist Church in Fiji Reverend Epineri Vakadewavosa.
Palm Sunday is normally celebrated a week before Easter.

In a statement, Reverend Vakadewavosa acknowledged church members for adhering to Government measures and directives and encouraged them to continue.

He cancelled all church organized Palm Sunday and advised parents to explain the decision to children and the Church’s role in helping Health authorities in the fight against Coronavirus.

Annual Divisional Meetings scheduled for this month has also been cancelled and divisional superintendents have been told to use other means of communication when communicating to circuit ministers and lay pastors.

“We have been receiving reports that some divisions are still organizing meetings and other gatherings.

Please adhere to the current announcement by the government that gathering of any kind is prohibited.

The 20 participants earlier announced is cancelled,” Reverend Vakadewavosa said.

The examination of candidates to the Ministry and lay pastors is also cancelled.
