Yue Lai Hotel in Suva will employ 65 workers when the hotel is opened for business.

However, completion of construction work on the $10 million expansion project at Flagstaff needs to be completed this year, director FuGang Zhao said.

He saids specification and standards of the Chinese developers involved importing material and specialised workforce from China,

The expansion project began in 2008 and includes a nine floor building.

Construction of Yue Lai Hotel followed the increase in demand for accommodation, Mr FuGang said.

Yue Lai Hotel will have 84 rooms and 12 two-bedroom fully self-contained units.

“All 84 rooms are deluxe rooms.”

The location is close to major attractions and is within walking distance to the city, Courts and museum.

Yue Lai Hotel will target the travelling business sector, Mr FuGang said.

Yue Lai Hotel is manned by a skeletal staff of 30 workers as Mr FuGang concedes business is not doing well because of the coronavirus pandemic.

WG Friendship Plaza

Work on the 30-storey WG Friendship Plaza’s structure has been on hold as workers were unable to return from China after the Chinese New Year celebrations as the coronavirus pandemic broke out from Wuhan.

Delay to work on the McGregor Road structure, said to be Fiji’s tallest building yet, will cost the company more than it originally budgeted.
