Weather: Heavy Rain, Flash Flooding Warning; Public Urged To Take Precautions

Tropical Cyclone Harold is expected to track to the southwest of the Fiji group this coming Wednesday or Thursday.

The weather update was confirmed by the Fiji Meteorological Service (Fiji Met) in Nadi yesterday.

The weather forecaster said with the current track, TC Harold is expected to track to the southwest of the Fiji group this Wednesday or Thursday.

“At 3am TC Harold centre (985HPa) was located near 13.1 South 163.2 East. It just intensified into a Category 2 cyclone moving south-southeast at about 11 knots. Maximum sustained winds of 50 knots close to the centre and is expected to intensify further,” the weather forecaster said.

He said Vanuatu is currently under a Tropical Cyclone and Severe Weather Warning issued by Vanuatu Met.

Furthermore the Nadi forecaster said that for now, the related trough of low pressure is bringing lots of clouds and showers over the Fiji group.

Meanwhile, the National Disaster Management Office is also advising the general public to be alert and take precautionary measures from heavy rain and flash flooding.

Motorists and pedestrians are strongly advised to avoid crossing flooded roads and walkways.

The public is also advised to continue monitoring the weather bulletins and forecasts on the radio or the Fiji Met and listen to the radio for further updates.
