The Fiji Rugby Union chief executive officer John O’Connor, has strongly condemned the behaviour of two overseas-based players.

These are the players who are believed to have returned to Fiji recently and failed to follow lawful instructions regarding self-isolation to protect other Fijians at risk of catching COVID 19.

“We strongly condemn the behaviour of these two players and their disregard for lawful instructions to self-isolate themselves,” he said.

It is understood that one of the players is London-based loose forward and Olympian Semi Kunatani. When the Fiji SUN visited his home on April 1, a close relative said he was taken into isolation by health officials.

Kunatani arrived in the country and attended his son’s first birthday. His wife a medical doctor was also taken into isolation.

O’Connor said the Fiji Rugby family wants to put on record their great disappointment at the irresponsible behaviour of these two players putting their families and other Fijians at risk.

“Such irresponsible behaviour is totally unacceptable, and we support the actions of the Police in arresting these two players and any further action taken against them.

“Fiji Rugby will take appropriate disciplinary actions against the professional rugby players including reporting this highly irresponsible behaviour to their Clubs and World Rugby,” O’Connor highlighted.
