Residents in Sawani in Nausori are fearful as more rain heads to Fiji as a result of the impact of Tropical Cyclone Harold.

TC Harold made landfall on Espiritu Santo in Vanuatu yesterday lashing through the nation’s biggest island bringing about strong winds and rain.

Rain is what drives fear into the hearts of those living along Princes Road especially areas where the Waimanu River and the Rewa River run.

Yesterday morning at 3am, the Waimanu River broke its bank, flooding part of Princes Road close to Adi Cakobau School.

According to Fiji Roads Authority, the road will remain closed as a piece of the road was previously washed off into the river.

Resident of the area, Sarawn Singh found his compound flooded yesterday morning.

“There is more rain coming this way and I am scared that we will see a flood of that happens. Right now, all I can do is pray,” he said.

Similar sentiments were presented by other residents.

In Wailoku, the authority and stakeholders worked round the clock to clear a boulder, which had fallen on the road, cutting traffic and felled powerlines.

The road was partially cleared in the afternoon, but electricity was not restored as of early last night.
