The Nadroga Rugby Union (NRU) officials are aware of the COVID-19 threat and its impact on the country’s economy. This has forced the business sector to tighten up on their spending and even some have closed their operation with workers being laid off.

President  Jiko Matawalu confirmed that during this trying times loyal sponsors always come in handy.

“We have some loyal sponsors on hand and it’s our partnership that may assist them to get back on their feet when business resumes as usual,” he said.

“We were just finalising some new sponsors for this season 2020 and onwards which now are on hold.

“Everyone in the business sector and also the sporting industry is feeling the impact of this pandemic so we can’t do much.

“Even international sporting bodies and rugby clubs have sliced the wages of players and of course some of their sponsors have stepped down because of the financial impact caused by the virus.

“Our recent case is how Super Rugby clubs are making big payouts and sending their staff on leave. That’s an indicator of how tough business is around the world.”

Matawalu said for Nadroga Rugby Union they faith in their sponsors.

The Stallions secured the sponsorship of more than 15 companies last year.

“We have sponsors like BLK, Tapoos, Sigatoka Electric, Gecko Trucking, Queensland Laptop and Services, Hyperchem Sigatoka, Sigatoka River Safari, Flying Fin Restaurant and Bar, Jack’s Fiji Ltd, Vodafone, Lo’s Restaurant, Paradise Buses Ltd, Sound Pacific Systems, Clermont Rugby-France.

“All the above have their own strategies and we may just have to wait and see what our future holds for our partnerships,” Matawalu added.
