Three Tell Court They Were Inside Their Home When Arrested

Three men alleged to have been arrested on April 6 at Gaji Road in Samabula during curfew hours claim that Police arrested them inside their home and not on the road.

Josese Naicola, Apete Golemaiwasa and Emori Racagi, who appeared before Magistrate Shageeth Somaratne are charged with one count each of failure to comply with lawful orders.

Golemaiwasa informed the Court that he was inside the house with Naicola and Racagi at 10:10 pm when Police entered and arrested them claiming that they were violating the social gathering orders.

He also said he lives in the same house as the other two accused persons. Naicola said he was standing in front of the house at 10:10pm and was about to enter when he was arrested by Police.

Racagi informed Magistrate Somaratne that he was returning from buying suki (tobacco) when he was arrested around 10:30pm.

All three men were bailed for a sum of $500 bond and were ordered not to re-offend and not to interfere with State witnesses.

The Court also imposed a curfew on them from 7pm to 6am daily.

Naicola will reappear in Court on July 27th.
