In a press conference yesterday, Hasmukh Patel said overall work was expected to be completed by tomorrow night.
“The job is extensive one and we want to make sure that we do it safely, therefore it will take time to restore power.
“It is also important that on top of the cyclone last week, we have the COVID-19 pandemic and there are restricted zones that we also have to abide by.
“More important that restoration of power supply, is to make sure that we protect ourselves and all Fijians from COVID-19. “Therefore we are strictly adhering to the rules and regulation that have been stipulated by the Government.
“Although there maybe some ease on the restriction for EFL when we are trying to restore materials or vehicles from one side to the other side.
“We do not want to be transporting people from restricted zones due to the risk of COVID-19.
“We have limited number of people in Lami, Nausori and Sawani. The important thing is we all want to be safe, healthy and alive for EFL.”
Mr Patel said repair works was continuing in Labasa, Savusavu, Taveuni and in Ovalau.
“We are asking Fijians to bear with us, we are being mindful of supply materials after assessing the areas affected however the lives of our employees and Fijians are paramount.”
