No One Will Be Spared Warns Divisional Commander West

Some people living in the Western Division still don’t get it.

Fiji Police Force statistics from March 20 to April 14 show that the Western Divison registered the highest number of arrests – 413.

These were for alleged curfew, social gathering and confinement breaches.

Commissioner of Police, Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho said social gatherings continue to be a concern.

“Everyone needs to stop unnecessary social gatherings or find yourself behind bars,” he said.

In Lautoka, it’s evident that good sense is not getting through.

Divisional Commander West Senior Superintendent of Police Surend Sami said they would continue to send out advisories from Government and the Commissioner of Police. He warned that no one would be spared.

“We have even charged our officers in parts of the country because everyone will be taken to task.”

Mr Sami said multiple checkpoints were placed in parts of Lautoka to monitor movement despite the uplifting of the Lautoka confined area.

It’s simple:

  • Don’t go outside for no good reason, don’t socialise needlessly, don’t meet up for grog sessions and stay home to help save lives

Meanwhile on Tuesday night, 106 arrests were made with 88 arrests for social gathering breach.

88 social gathering breaches:

  • Northern Division recorded 39;
  • Eastern Division recorded 20 cases;
  • Western and Southern Divisions recorded 13 cases each; and
  • Central Division three.

18 curfew breach arrests:

The East recorded 11, the South recorded five and the West recorded two. Of the 106 arrests made 14 were juveniles that breached both curfew and social gathering restrictions.
