A final year education student is gaining social media praise for her post to offer free tutoring for primary and secondary students in Fiji amid the COVID-19 restrictions.

Tanuskha Nand wrote in a hearty Facebook post that more negatively impacted, for her, was the education of thousands of primary and secondary school students in the country.

Her post on Thursday night garnered 12 shares, 89 comments and 117 reactions, since yesterday.

With schools not resuming until June 16, they will now be given revision materials on hand and online to help them catch up with the curriculum.

Ms Nand, who is completing a Bachelor of Science Graduate Certificate in Education majoring in Chemistry and Biology, posted: “I am going to use social media and voice platforms along with needed face-to-face sessions to help those students who are struggling to cope with these subjects.

“This is voluntary and I will not charge a single cent.”

She can be contacted on 8746000 for tutoring adding that she has free Vodafone and Inkk calls.

Her teaching practical at Jai Narayan College was short-lived after the schools were closed early last month.

“Even though I major in Biology and Chemistry (years 11, 12 and 13) I can help greatly with primary school subjects as well,” she said.

“This includes Hindi and other subjects such as Basic Technology, Social Science, Mathematics, Basic Science and Agricultural Science at Year 9 and Year 10 level.”

While the Ministry of Education was implementing strategies to help students in the learning process, she added: “It is important that Fijians look after the needs of one another during these trying times.”
