With Ramadan Beginning This Week, Muslim League’s Khan Reminds On Rules

In light of the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, Fiji Muslim League has advised Muslims to celebrate Ramadan at home.
Many Muslims across the world have been forced to rethink traditions and find new approaches to one of Islam’s most important religious rituals.
Fiji Muslim League President Hafiz Khan said depending on the sighting of the moon on Thursday night, April 23, then they would start fasting by Friday, April 24, from dawn to dusk for 30 days ending on Saturday, May 23.
For Muslims, Ramadan is a time of extended communal prayer and a month of fasting from dawn and ends at sunset. They are expected to put more effort into following the teachings of Islam.
It is also a time for spiritual reflection, self-improvement, and heightened devotion and worship.
Mr Khan stated all mosques are closed and Muslims are to pray at their own homes.
Previously Ramadan was celebrated by going to the mosque, praying, sharing things, visiting families, inviting friends and neighbours, he said.
“But all these have changed, the whole landscape is changed and we are doing everything at home.”
Mr Khan said fasting is important during Ramadan as it allows Muslims to devote themselves to their faith.
“During Ramadan, Muslims won’t eat or drink between dawn and sunset.”
He reminded devotees not to invite any of their relatives to celebrate Ramadan at their homes.
“We are asking everybody to follow the law and stay safe.”
Message
He has urged Muslims during this Ramadan to pray for humanity.
“Please pray for Fiji and the whole world as we are going through this tough time.
“Also pray for those in hospital so that they may get well soon.”
