The Vanua o Burebasaga considers it a privilege to carry out the final farewell of their vasu levu, Ratu Alifereti Ulukalala Baleisasa Finau Mara today.

He will be laid to rest today beside his mother, the late Gone Marama Bale Na Roko Tui Dreketi Ro Lady Lala Mara at the chiefly burial grounds, Narusa at Lomanikoro village, Rewa.

A spokesperson for the Gone Marama Bale na Roko Tui Dreketi, Ro Dona Takalaiyale said last night it was a blessing for the Vanua to lay to rest two of their vasu levu.

Ratu Finau’s younger brother, the late Ratu Joji Cokanauto Mara was also buried at the Narusa in 1990 following a car accident. He was 29 years old.

A private thanksgiving service for the life of Ratu Finau will take place at Stella Marist Convent Chapel at 10am.

The Vuanirewa clan will accompany their chief to Nasali Landing and across to Nabalili.

Ratu Ilisono Vuidreketi will receive the i vaka sobu at Nabalili before the procession or taqa to Burenivudi, the traditional meeting house for the Gone Marama Bale na Roko Tui Dreketi.

After the traditional protocols and final rites, all bearers from the chiefly families of Rewa, Bau and Nadroga will carry the Lauan chief to his resting place at Narusa.
