The Grace Road Group (GRG) has acquired two more farms in Nadi in its effort to assist Government build on Fiji’s food security amid the coronavirus crisis.

The group will also acquire two more farms in Navua, said property manager Anna Choi.

The latest acquisition in Nadi and the two lots eyed in Navua would increase the group’s new potato planting initiative, which was commissioned by Agriculture minister Mahendra Reddy in Sabeto on April 20.

The collective land mass for the four lots would measure 50 acres, Ms Choi said.

Grace Road Group owns 600 acres of farmland in Navua, and 200 acres of farms in Nadi.

“Our main produce is rice and vegetables,” Ms Choi said.

“We are working towards making the potato initiative a major product.

The group aims to reduce imports of carrots, potatoes and tomatoes by increasing local production of such food items, she said.

Ms Choi said the increase in farms would reduce importation of freshly grown vegetables.

“Domestic demand for these main vegetables is high.”

Ms Choi said the four tonnes of potato seedlings given by the Ministry of Agriculture would be planted on their Navua and Nadi farms.

“We have the technology and manpower to achieve these goals.

“Our sustainable farming is such that we do not use fertilisers.

“Our aim is to increase our harvest volume for rice and vegetables,” she said.
